https://github.com/arve-research/lpj-lmfire - Oxygen-Fire

10 September 2022

This is the version of the LPJ-LMfire code used in experiments described in the manuscript:

Vitali, R., Belcher, C. M., Kaplan, J. O., & Watson, A. J. (in review). Redefining the fire window: Higher atmospheric oxygen concentrations are compatible with the presence of forests. Nature Communications.

In this version of the code, ignition efficiency, moisture of extinction, and heat of combustion in the spitfiremod.f90 module are influenced by prescribed ambient atmospheric oxygen concentrations. Changing O2 concentrations leads to changes in burned area, biomass, and vegetation cover, with higher O2 generally leading to an increase in fire and decrease in woody vegetation cover.

For further details, the authors can be contacted for a preprint of the manuscript.

https://github.com/arve-research/lpj-lmfire - Tropical forest restoration

9 January 2022

This is the official release of the LPJ-LMfire Dynamic Global Vegetation Model, version 1.4. This is the version of the model that was used to generate the results in the following publication:

Koch, A., & Kaplan, J. O. (2022). Tropical forest restoration under future climate change. Nature Climate Change. doi:10.1038/s41558-022-01289-6

Primary modifications from LPJ-LMfire 1.3 (Chaste et al., 2018) include various bugfixes and modifications to the output routines to archive variables needed for this study.

https://github.com/arve-research/lpj-lmfire - Boreal forests

26 February 2018

This is the official release of the LPJ-LMfire Dynamic Global Vegetation Model, version 1.3. This is the version of the model that was used to generate the results in the following publication:

Chaste, E., Girardin, M. P., Kaplan, J. O., Portier, J., Bergeron, Y., and Hély, C.: The pyrogeography of eastern boreal Canada from 1901 to 2012 simulated with the LPJ-LMfire model, Biogeosciences, 15, 2018. https://doi.org/10.5194/bg-15-1-2018.

Primary modifications from LPJ-LMfire 1.0 (Pfeiffer et al., 2013) include various bugfixes such as dealing with uninitialized variables, modification of the driver programs to work with input data on an projected (or curvilinear) grid, and a revision of the pftparameters subroutine to accept an external file with PFT parameters, and definition of special PFTs for Eastern Canada – these are described in the paper cited above.
