Understanding Mimicry in Butterflies from Images using Machine Learning

This repository constitutes the work done by Reshma Ramesh Babu for her Master's thesis Imageomics Approach to Understanding Visual Biological Trait Similarities using Butterfly Mimicry as a Model System. It uses ML and dorsal butterfly images from two different established datasets to study mimicry among various subspecies of Heliconius erato and Heliconius melpomene butterflies. Analysis is performed on the original RBG images, as well as images to which AcuityView has been applied to render the images as seen by birds and butterflies for better understanding of inter-species mimicry.
