This repo contains the draft of the XML-TEI structure conceived by the MEGV project for the critical edition of plantation correspondence in the French Caribbean in the 18th century.

Data comes from the project entitled "Masculinités esclavagistes : genre et violence dans la Caraïbe française (XVIIIème siècle)", led by Marie Houllemare, at Geneva University (Switzerland), financed by SNSF. Transcriptions are made by Elodie Bascoul, Marion Philip and Méloé Maillard, with the support of Simon Gabay and Thomas Gauffroy-Naudin, with eScriptorium. Edition choices are made by Elodie Bascoul and Marion Philip, with advices of Floriane Goy. This draft is based on the example of a few letters from the correspondence of the Fougeu heiresses' Varreux and Sources plantations in Saint-Domingue. It comprises two separate fonds, the papers of Marie-Rose Fougeu and her husband Hubert de Brienne, comte de Conflans, and those of François Jean Charles de la Rochefoucauld, marquis de Baÿers, husband of Marie-Thérèse Fougeu. These correspondences are held at the Archives Nationales (Caran) in Paris, and the digital facsimiles were captured by the team.
