Intention to treat, non-inferiority trial, open label, randomized clinical trial with positive control. We hypothesized that an enzyme alginogel is an effective topical treatment for active DD lesions. To test this hypothesis, we compared the enzyme alginogel with the standard non-antibiotic topical treatment in the Netherlands, i.e. a copper and zinc chelates gel. Effectiveness of treatment was evaluated using both the M-score for DD and wound healing criteria.
